Encore is a project dedicated to Romanian contemporary music, initiated by pianist Adriana Toacsen, one of its fervent advocates. It is defined as a pioneering endeavour that brings together musicians and music lovers through a form of creation that has received little promotion in recent years – Romanian piano music. The project places the encore – an essence of musical pleasure – in the service of the relationship between the audience and contemporary music.
The power of the encore in concerts, though subtle, is considerable. In the structured world of classical music, encores embody surprise, nonconformity, flamboyance, the atypical… and at times serve as a powerful means of connecting with the audience, as well as leaving a lasting impression in their memory. Once the emotion of the concert has subsided, when both musicians and audience find themselves in a state of grace, this miniature musical form – like a capsule of musical essence – comes to strengthen the bond between performer and listener.
